decisive for leaving the u.s. senate. and if it is true then it's really looking like the heritage foundation and jim demint saw an opportunity in the continuing republican crackup. earlier this week, we learned that dick armey is breaking up with his tea party group freedom works and then we learned freedom works is kind of crumbling from within due to internal disputes over its strategy. that leaves a mantle of leadership for the tea party wing of the republican party wide open. that is a lot of power and a lot of fund-raising opportunity. and if you believe the timeline of the records, demint and the heritage foundation saw that opportunity whereby they could join forces and seize it and perhaps even become leaders of that wing of the party. now, they're not alone. you know who's leading the other wing of the republican party right now? and also getting a bunch of money? the don't primary all of your incumbents and choose all of your unelectable candidates wing of the party. that is karl rove. here's how rove explained his election experience. >> i was involved in a group called

that so-called fiscal cliff. in our new nbc news/wall street journal poll just out for us today, most americans say they want compromise. joining me here for our daily fix, chris, msnbc contributor and managing editor of postpolitics.com. the fiscal cliff, the people that we polled, americans get it. they want, two-thirds of them, 65% say they want a deal to be done. they want compromises even if it means targeted entitlement cuts and tax increases. >> yeah, and i don't think we should be terribly surprised by that, andrea. the truth of the matter is over the last decade or so what we've seen is congress, really, because of redistricting and other things like that, members of congress don't tend to have to represent the middle of the country. they wind up representing their two-party bases, the people that deeply disagree. democratic base does not want entitlement cuts, republican base does not want to raise taxes. but people in general like the idea congress can get something done on something big. now, i would say there's a little bit of devil in the details. the question does ask a

for our great country. the other forces? the transports, banks, u.s. treasury bonds and gold. first, you know i like to watch the transports as a measurement of economic activity. you know it has to be shipped somewhere to be sold. that is why i follow the transports so closely. when they are going up it means there is more commerce happening than thought. planes, trains, truckers and shippers going higher, that above all, is a terrific predictor of growth. today the transports showed signs of growth. i got more negative. a real break out. that would be a signal of a genuine expansion on the rise. the action signaling that could happen. second, the banks are now breaking out of the ranks with the transports. look at the xlf. that is a exchange trade fund. this group is moving to the upside. one that is necessary if we are going to see a legitimate and lasting recovery. it looks like it has had a big run. it is still less than half of where it was a few years ago. we will look at the trading in goldman sachs. it has been lured back to life. that is the case with bank of america. just to g
